It appears Canadians will soon be in for a real treat. According to an article featured on KYPost.com KFC will be serving “unchicken” to their customers up north. It looks as if PETA has strong armed KFC Canada into this new age of enlightenment. PETA has called off their campaign and all is well now in the land of the maple leaves and hockey. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of this maneuver.
I have a hard time believing hard line vegans will be raising biscuits with their meat eating brethren at Kentucky Fried “Unchicken” any time soon. Why would you want to support a company that is driven completely by the mass production of chicken? I do recall a few years ago their transformation from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC. Attempting to alleviate the artery hardening baggage that frying carries. Now they are covering the chicken portion with an olive branch disguised as mock meat. Next order of business is cutting ties with Kentucky. Leading to their new name, Non-Geographically Specific Not Fried Unchicken. I guess NGSNFU doesn't have the same ring to it. No matter what you call it it's still fried chicken.
Additionally do you really believe KFC employees will be dedicated to the important task of keeping all food completely separate? I'm not entrusting a 16 year old fry cook trainee to keep chicken wing remnants away from my mock meat. Possibly in Canada they will enforce the rule of separation with steadfastness. I say that though with some reservation and would rather err on the side of caution.
On a positive note this does shine a spotlight on the vegan and vegetarian lifestyle. It is nice to see a company comply with their customer's needs. Even if it took a strong swat from PETA to jolt them to this conclusion. On the other hand this is still KFC. Their entire brand is based on chicken. Colonel Sanders didn't have soy based faux meats in mind when he traveled town to town trying to sell his product. Unfortunately in our society dipping a fake meat product in oil is still not enough for a healthy bottom line. KFC needs chicken like A-Rod needs Madonna (allegedly) and for that reason you won't see me in KFC any time soon.

I completely agree and hell will have to freeze over and Paris Hilton win the Nobel Peace prize first before I see myself getting unchicken or anything from KFC.

My daughter despises KFC. She knows how cruel they are to their animals before they kill them. She has mad eit known that if me or her father eat fried chicken, it had better not be KFC... We have honored her wishes.
